Working Together to Connect the World to the Arctic

United in action: Where Subarctic adventure meets conservation and inspires global action

Since 2001, Frontiers North Adventures has been a Platinum sponsor of Polar Bears International, supporting our Climate Alliance®, Tundra Connections®Field Ambassador Programs, and our innovative Bear-dar technology. They also provide us with a permit to operate EV Tundra Buggy One™ as a roving broadcast studio. This collaboration allows us and our partner, explore.org, to offer polar bear and northern light cams, bringing the Subarctic to viewers around the world. It also allows us to bring global media outlets and documentary filmmakers to the tundra, inspiring people to care about polar bears and their fragile and changing ecosystem.

In addition, our alliance with Frontiers North provides our scientists and Field Ambassadors with the opportunity to share the latest polar bear and climate science with guests during tours at Polar Bears International House and aboard Frontier North’s Tundra Buggies®. and at their Tundra Buggy Lodge. Throughout polar bear season, members of our team join Frontiers North tours on the tundra to complement their guides’ interpretation by sharing in-depth knowledge about polar bear biology and Polar Bears International-supported research projects, enriching the overall experience. Guests staying overnight at the Tundra Buggy Lodge enjoy presentations on our work and research from our scientists and experts, with the opportunity to ask questions and engage in lively conversations.

For a once-in-a-lifetime experience, guests can also join Frontier North’s Conservation Journey®: Polar Bears, which is guided by one of Polar Bears International’s top researchers, whose expertise spans the globe. This is the perfect experience for travellers seeking a meaningful adventure and a profound understanding of polar bears.

With our combined efforts, Churchill guests leave with greater knowledge of polar bears, the threats they face, and how we can work together to protect their future.

United in Action Since 2001

In 2026, we’re celebrating 25 years of working together to share the polar bears’ story and inspire people around the world to protect their Arctic home.

Polar Bears International was born on a Tundra Buggy

The idea of Polar Bears International began on a Tundra Buggy in Churchill. In 1992, a group of passionate photographers, inspired by the polar bears they encountered, formed a non-profit originally called Polar Bears Alive. Their mission was to protect polar bears and inspire others to care about their future.

Today, that small grassroots effort has grown into Polar Bears International, a leading global voice for polar bear conservation, dedicated to studying, protecting, and advocating for polar bear populations around the world — all inspired by those first powerful moments on the tundra.

Decades later, though much has changed, you’ll still find Polar Bears International team members on Tundra Buggies, continuing their mission and advocating for the future of polar bears right where it all began.

Introducing EV Tundra Buggy One

We unveiled EV Tundra Buggy One in autumn 2025, in collaboration with Frontiers North Adventures, a leader in sustainable tourism. This zero-emission propulsion, research, and outreach vehicle replaces the original diesel-powered Tundra Buggy that served scientists for nearly two decades.

EV Tundra Buggy One allows scientists, media crews, and guests to observe and live-stream polar bears up close while contributing less to carbon pollution — proving clean energy can thrive even in the harshest subarctic conditions.

Tundra Buggy One is our mobile broadcast studio that brings the Subarctic tundra near Churchill, Manitoba, into classrooms and homes around the world. Join us each fall as we LIVE stream the Polar Bear Cam and our Tundra Connections program.
