Megan Owen

Dr. Megan Owen is the Associate Director of Applied Animal Ecology at the Institute for Conservation Research, San Diego Zoo. Dr. Owen’s research is primarily focused on behavioral and sensory ecology, and highlights the integration of zoo bears into non-invasive conservation research.  Dr. Owen is also focused on connecting children of all ages to wildlife and the great outdoors. Specific research projects include:

  • Assessing the impacts of human disturbance and habitat fragmentation on communication and reproductive success

  • Integrating sensory ecology into disturbance models

  • Social behavior in solitary species

  • Understanding behavioral and physiological stress responses in bears
