A Few of Our Favorite Things 2022

MINS

22 Nov 2022

It's no surprise that we love the holiday season at Polar Bears International. With the weather getting colder and holiday lights illuminating the night sky, we wanted  to share our annual “favorite gifts” list to commemorate this festive time of the year.

Our lineup includes something for every age and budget, and the best part is that all gifts support polar bear conservation. Take a look at what we’ve put together. You might find a gift or two for yourself as well as for someone special on your holiday list!

Canada Goose PBI Collection

Canada Goose is on a mission to help raise awareness about the threats facing polar bears and Northern communities, and also supports our conservation, research, and outreach work. In 2022, they released an extended line of co-branded jackets, parkas, and vests that celebrate keeping the planet cold and the people on it warm. Our favorite aspect of this collection is its signature bright hue: PBI Blue. Canada Goose recognizes the urgency to protect the Arctic and pledged to become carbon neutral by 2025—improving the future for us all.

Through sales of the Canada Goose PBI collection, the brand has donated more than $5 million in support of our mission since 2007.

All-Electric MINI Cooper SE

We love working towards living a more sustainable and eco-friendly life. That's why it made sense to partner with our friends at MINI USA to help them launch their all-electric MINI Cooper SE with their new polar bear mascot: Nanuq!

Through their partnership with Polar Bears International, MINI is helping communicate the importance of protecting the polar bears and their sea ice home, raising awareness about the polar bears’ melting habitat, why it matters, and how we can forge a new path to a renewable energy future. Reserve your own MINI EV!

VICKS Cough Drops

‘Tis the cough drop season, and if you live in Europe, we encourage you to look for Polar Bears International on your VICKS cough drop packaging.

Since the start, sustainability has shaped the decision-making processes of family-owned confectionary, Katjes (kaht-yes), Polar Bears International’s newest sponsor and the exclusive licensee of VICKS in Europe (WICK in Germany). As part of their ongoing commitment to the environment, they regularly reevaluate their energy and water usage, reassess their business practices (like going 100% carbon neutral and limiting business flights), and support global climate protection projects and nonprofits—like Polar Bears International.

Save the Bears Tracking Bracelets by Fahlo

Our friends at Fahlo have partnered with us since the fall of 2019 to create a unique line of bracelets with an added benefit! Each bracelet comes with an associated QR code that allows you to follow the tracks of your very own live polar bear on Western Hudson Bay. A gift like this is a fun and engaging way to learn about wildlife conservation. As a valued Northern Lights sponsor, Fahlo donates 10% of all proceeds from their Save the Bears Collection to help fund our work.

Fahlo is extending a special offer for our polar bear friends: Buy two Venture Bracelets and receive one free, using code B2G1. Valid through December 31, 2022.

Saving Us by Katharine Hayhoe

From our good friend Katharine Hayhoe comes her book, “Saving Us,''which details the extreme effects of climate change and how humans are altering the course of our climate future. On a 2012 trip to Churchill with our chief research scientist, Dr. Steven Armstrup, Katharine witnessed firsthand what life is like in the Arctic for polar bears. She includes the moving experience in her book, connecting the polar bears’ world to our own.

For anyone interested in learning how to communicate about climate change and help bring about change, Katharine  provides an easy-to-follow approach to initiating conversations that are respectful, productive, and powerful. And it’s now available in paperback!

“We care about the polar bears because they’re showing us what’s going to happen to us.” Dr. Steven Amstrup, Polar Bears International’s chief scientist (pg. 88).

Check out Chapters 8 and 10 for more about Katharine’s experience learning about polar bears and the impacts of climate change.

bareMinerals

We’re excited to announce that bareMinerals and the Power of Good Fund have joined our efforts to ensure a future for polar bears through their Arctic Bare Holiday Collection campaign. They believe in creating clean, conscious, and cruelty-free beauty, and the Arctic Bare Collection is just that, with 100% vegan products packaged in fully recyclable plastic-free boxes.

Through the end of the year, 1% of sales of the bareMinerals Holiday Collection will support Polar Bears International’s conservation mission.

“A Year with Polar Bears” 2023 Calendar

Thinking about polar bears is something we do 365 days a year! Luckily, a few of our photo ambassadors and their friends collaborated with the good people at PosterJack. The 2023 Polar Bear Calendar contains twelve months of incredible polar bear photos captured by world-renowned wildlife photographers. We simply cannot pick our favorite month! This calendar also marks our important awareness campaigns so you can join in, including International Polar Bear Day and Polar Bear Week. 60% of their proceeds will be donated to Polar Bears International to support the long-term survival of polar bears and the sea ice they depend on.

Want to gift a polar bear fine art print this season? Check out the websites of our Photo Ambassadors Daniel J. Cox, Dave Sandford, and Jenny Wong, whose work is included in the calendar, to purchase a print.
