Project Polar Bear: Meet Some Incredible Teens
Kudos to the semi-finalist winners in our Project Polar Bear contest, a bi-national competition that challenges teens to create community projects that reduce carbon emissions. Together, this year's contestants accomplished amazing CO2 reductions—totally nearly 100 million pounds—with projects from CFL lightbulb giveaways to recycling drives (left, with phone books) and "power down" efforts.
Ready for some inspiration? You can read their blog entries here.
The semi-finalist teams are:
- AHS Zoo School, North Carolina
- Care Bears, Ohio
- Earth Club, Wisconsin
- Energy Angels, Pennsylvania
- Purchase for Polars, Oregon
- Solar for Polar, Ohio
- The Recycling Roadrunners, Arizona
- Team Living Planet Aquarium, Utah
We'll announce the four finalist teams in March. These teams will advance to San Diego for an Awards Ceremony in April at SeaWorld San Diego and the San Diego Zoo, where we'll announce the Grand Prize and Second Place winners.
The Grand Prize team wins a trip to Churchill to see polar bears in the wild! The Second Place team wins a Beluga Interaction at Sea World. All four finalist teams win a trip to San Diego and free admission to SeaWorld San Diego and the San Diego Zoo.
Special thanks to Project Polar Bear's Platinum Sponsor, Lowepro. Our thanks, too, to SeaWorld San Diego for providing a breakfast and hosting the Awards Ceremony and to both SeaWorld San Diego and the San Diego Zoo for providing free admission and tours to all finalists.
