"Xcel and the Como Zoo provide an excellent example of a partnership to educate people about the environment and inspire them to reduce their carbon footprint," says PBI President & CEO Robert Buchanan. "And reducing greenhouse gases is what it will take to save polar bears and arctic sea ice."

The Como Zoo is a member of PBI's Arctic Ambassador Center network of more than 50 zoos, museums, and aquariums. Excel received the Paw of Approval in 2011. This year's recipient from the Como Zoo is Horton Holding in recognition of its reduction in the consumption of natural gas and propane, development of alternative packaging, and expansion of recycling efforts.
