It's a Boy! Alaskan Children Will Name the Cub
The Toledo Zoo has verfied that the polar bear cub born at the Zoo in early December is a healthy male. He and his mother, Crystal, are still in their den at the Arctic Encounter exhibit and are expected to emerge soon. The Zoo, along with Polar Bears International and the World Wildlife Fund, has invited children on Alaska's North Slope to name him. The Zoo's other female polar bear, Nan, was rescued as an orphaned cub from the North Slope over a decade ago.
Be sure to watch the cam at the polar bear maternity den. Although the little ball of fur weighed about one pound when he was born, he's now 33 pounds, active and playful.
