Arctic Report Card

The Arctic continues to warm at an unprecedented rate according to a new report by a team of 69 international scientists. Among their findings:

  • Greenland is experiencing record-high temperatures, ice melt, and glacier area loss
  • The arctic sea ice thickness continues to thin
  • The summer sea ice minimum in 2010 was the third lowest since satellite monitoring began in 1979, surpassed only by 2007 and 2008
  • Arctic snow cover duration set a record minimum since record-keeping began in 1966

The findings were released Oct. 21, 2010 in the Arctic Report Card, a yearly assessment of Arctic conditions.
