Arctic Melt Accelerating Climate Warming

Sea iceNew research shows that snow and ice losses in the Arctic are affecting temperatures elsewhere, with a warming rate almost double what was previously thought. The increased heat is due to a loss of the solar cooling effect caused by reflections from ice and snow, says climatologist Mark Flanner of the University of Michigan. Flanner and his coworkers' findings were published this week in the journal Nature Geoscience.
