Pull the Plug on World Penguin Day
Saturday, April 25, is World Penguin Day and we are celebrating our favorite flightless birds by pulling the plug.
While polar bears and penguins live at opposite ends of the Earth, they have something in common. They are both affected by climate change.
The Pole to Pole campaign aims to help both polar bears and penguins and everything in between.
The leading zoos and aquariums of Europe, along with other partners, will raise awareness and stimulate behavior change for the conservation of the biodiversity of the two Poles.
As part of the Pole to Pole campaign, you can pledge to "Pull the Plug."
Just unplug one or more of your electronic devices when they are not in use. This means pulling out the plug once your mobile phone or tablet has finished charging, switching your TV or games console off at the wall rather than leaving it on standby.
Together these small changes to our behavior can have a big impact in minimizing wasted electricity and help cut down the carbon emissions contributing to climate change. We can make the world better for both polar bears and penguins.
Join the campaign and pledge to unplug a device (or several). Sign the petition to demand the commitment of our national governments and the European Union to support all measures which help keep global warming under the 2°C limit, and to work towards a binding global agreement at the intergovernmental meeting on climate change in Paris in December 2015.
