Last Day of the Polar Bear Cam

By Valerie Abbott

Last day.

As always, I have mixed emotions at this time of year. The Hudson Bay has frozen and the polar bears have left to eat seals.

This is my fourth year as a Polar Bear Cam operator. Once again, I have met some amazing people and learned a thing or two. I'm already looking forward to next year's polar bear migration when I can watch the polar bears play, wander, and pounce.

I will miss the beautiful sunrises and sunsets. I will miss the excitement of looking for polar bears on the tundra. I will miss watching their behavior.

Each year, the Polar Bear Cam affords us a rare peek inside the lives of the western Hudson Bay polar bears as they gather and wait for the ice to form. Many thanks to Polar Bears Internationalexplore.org, Frontiers North Adventures, Parks Canada, and so many others. Without them, this would not be possible.

Enjoy this last day of viewing—and then watch highlights until next year's season begins.

Happy hunting bears, happy hunting ... !
