Good News Friday {Foundation Divestments, 13 Energy Breakthroughs, Sunny India}

We like to go into the weekend with a smile on our face and we bet you do too. It's easy to get caught up in all the bad news for polar bears and the planet, and we want to change that.

On Fridays we look at the good things that are happening for polar bears and carbon reduction.

• Seventeen foundations controlling nearly $1.8 billion in investments have united to commit to pulling their money out of companies that do business in fossil fuels, the group announced on Thursday. This is a big deal because the divergence movement has won over small colleges and environmentally conscious cities, but has yet to turn the wealthiest institutions.

• While the news about climate change seems to get worse every day, the rapidly improving technology, declining costs and increasing accessibility of clean energy is the true bright spot in the march toward a zero-carbon future. The year had more clean energy milestones than we could fit on one page, but here are 13 of the key breakthroughs that happened in 2013

• It seems like we talk a lot about solar energy here, and we are about to do it again. India wants to build a solar project so large (4,000 megawatts), it would dwarf all others. India depends on coal for about half of its electricity needs, but with all the sunshine it gets, it poised to become a leader in solar energy

Have a great weekend!
