Adventure Learning Camp Teacher
I am originally from Cheyenne, Wyoming in the U.S.A. where I lived until I finished University at the University of Wyoming in 1988. I have a Bachelor of Science Degree in Secondary Education - Biological Science with a minor in Chemistry. My first teaching job was in Riverside, California (where I was also the drug education teacher with responsibilities to look after students who were using). I also had extensive interviews with the U.S.
I met my husband John at the Running of the Bulls in Pamplona, Spain (while travelling around Europe) in 1990. He is Australian and was living and working in London in order to travel and see the world. I decided to join him. I took a break from teaching and was based in London - saw a lot more of Europe as well as living in France (we ran a ski business) and doing extensive tours of the Greek Islands and Africa.
We settled in Australia after we were married in 1994 and I have been teaching high school Science here ever since. We have continued to travel (around Australia, South America, the U.S., and Indonesia), have had a son (Ben just turned 5), built a house on beautiful Mount Tamborine (rainforest) looking over the Gold Coast in Queensland, and I have earned my masters degree in Educational Administration.
I have worked in a variety of positions in a few schools on the Gold Coast (Head of Department, Science, year coordinator, Deputy Principal, and now Head of House) as well as working a few secondment positions at the Queensland Studies Authority (Science curriculum stuff) and Griffith University (making links between the University and High School Science Departments - which is how I became involved with Kaye, Kerrie, and PBI).
I love skiing, snorkelling, scuba diving, travelling, good food, and reading (especially Harry Potter). I have worked on a variety of Science and survival based camps from the Alpine areas of Wyoming (hiking using ice axes) to the hinterland, bushland, beach areas, and the Great Barrier Reef in Australia. I am so excited to add the' Churchill, polar bear tundra buggy experience' to my list!
