Adventure Learning Camp Teacher
As I sit down to write this bio and explain why I am involved in Leadership Camp I feel at a bit of a loss and am unable to provide even myself an explanation! My introduction into the world of polar bears was not out of a personal interest and passion for the animals or for their environment but rather through my family business. Through being involved in Churchill tourism I have discovered a whole community of people inspired by polar bears and, as I am sure the 2007 Leadership Camp students will discover, their inspiration is contagious. I have had the privilege of meeting polar bear researchers, biologists, photographers, business owners and countless polar bear buffs. I have experienced the most beautiful nature and wildlife, slept under breathtaking skies on the barren tundra, ridden in helicopters and have traveled as far as Germany to share with others all about Canada's north and what it has to offer. My journey has been a whirlwind adventure that I did not see coming. The last almost-decade really has been a privilege and I am honored to be a part of the polar bear world.
Due to my interest in both education and sustainability, I have naturally gravitated towards PBI, who already had an established partnership with our company. I am super excited about PBI's education initiatives such as the Leadership Camp and Web Conferencing Classroom and I feel very strongly about the organization's ability to make polar bears available to a larger, more diverse audiences than just those who can afford to travel to the corners of the world to see them in real life. There is a conservation message to be told and PBI has a unique and dynamic way of spreading it.
This will be my forth year of involvement with Leadership Camp. In the past four years I have watched the program grow and evolve and I am extremely proud of the program as well as its alumni and current students. I am continually blown away by the bright, articulate and inspiring youth who are selected to take part in camp. I love meeting the students, connecting with them and working along side them learning, debating and discussing the polar bears and how global climate change effects our world.
I am extremely interested in how we can be profoundly inspired to change our mindsets and behaviors towards the environment in which we live. I look forward to meeting this year's Leadership Camp students!
