I was born in Winnipeg and have lived in Manitoba all my life. I like spending time at my cottage, biking, swimming, fishing and fencing. Music is a big part of my life: I play piano and trombone, concert, and jazz music. Currently, I’m in grade 11 at Shaftesbury High School where my favorite subjects are math, science, and computer programming.

Shaftesbury has a film group to which I belong. I plan to film my trip to Churchill and bring it back so the group can turn it into a documentary. We will use this to spread the word of conservation and the impact of climate change on polar bears and Arctic ecosystems.

The Commissioner for Scouts in Manitoba has appointed me as Climate Change Ambassador. In this role I will lead information sessions for Scout groups and plan awareness activities. Through this work, I hope that people will be more informed about the impacts of climate change and what they can do to make a difference.

The Polar Bears International Leadership Camp is a perfect way to boost my knowledge of these very important subjects. Experiencing the effects of climate change on the northern environment and the polar bears first-hand is much better than reading information from a website or book. I look forward to the upcoming camp and meeting many new people from around the world. It is interesting that so many people are coming to study something that is right here in my home province.

Hello Everybody!
Yesterday, we all wrote our forward action plans. These helped us organize our thoughts and plan out what we will do when we get back home. Today, we are putting them in our journals for everybody to see. The first action I will take when I get back home is to finish the documentary I’ve been working on. I have all the footage I need. Now I have to put it all together. The original message of the film was strictly the impacts of climate change on the polar bears. Now that I know how to take care of the planet, I will include how to be a good steward of the planet in the documentary. Following that, I will talk to the principal of my school about using recycled goods. All of the printers and photocopiers use Xerox paper. I’ll convince him to start buying recycled paper. The third step I will take is to organize presentations around the city with the other Winnipeg ambassadors and the Manitoba Arctic Alumni Network. I completely agree with the expression “many hands make light work”.
