Karyne Jolicoeur - Interpreter - Wapusk National Park of Canada
Karyne Jolicoeur grew up in southern Manitoba, Canada. Karyne has always had a great respect for the natural world and its creatures. She has completed a Bachelors in Science as well as Bachelors in Education and now works as an Interpreter for Wapusk National Park of Canada (WNP)
While completing her degree in Education, Karyne began working for Parks Canada. Here, she was put out into the field to relay scientific knowledge to the general public as a park guide. This job opportunity offered contact with nature as well as the chance to interact with people of all ages and backgrounds.
It is during this work that Karyne witnessed first hand the natural processes that occur among animals and their environment as well as the pressures and dangers influencing this world.
After working as a teacher on the Parks off-season and returning to Riding Mountain National Park seasonally, Karyne accepted a full time job with Parks Canada as an Interpreter; preparing and presenting interpretive educational materials.
Karyne has recently taken a transfer from Riding Mountain National Park to Wapusk National Park in Northern Manitoba. Her knowledge of wildlife and natural processes of the boreal forest and grasslands are now helping her understand the northern ecosystems of Wapusk. She now tries to share her new stories of this magnificent land where taiga and tundra meet. An area renowned for the opportunity to see the white bear; but an area equally important for a diversity of fauna and flora and for the monitoring of climate change.
Karyne aspires to continue to work in the domain of natural education for years to come.
