Project Outline

Our project is named “Polar Promise” for two reasons. First, a website that we will create will offer participants a place to make a promise to carry out actions to reduce CO2 consumption, thus helping preserve Arctic habitat for polar bears and other Arctic animals. Secondly, before making their promises, participants will be asked to take a simple quiz about global warming. If they know the answers - great; if they do not know the answers, they will learn them from taking the quiz! Each participant will be asked to forward the page to at least three of their friends and family when they are finished, thereby increasing information across the region and perhaps the U.S. If lots of people learn from the quiz, make a promise to act and then complete it, there is real promise for polar bears and the Arctic habitat.
Our team is also planning on conducting educational activity stations at The Toledo Zoo on weekends, and at other locations to reach out with polar information and provide an opportunity to others to make a “Polar Promise”.
After all the survey results are collected, we will have great data on what people need to know, plus we will be able to calculate what impact their promises will have for the planet!
