    Polar bears don’t believe in warm towels. They like to dry themselves by shaking off excess water and rubbing their fur in the snow. Matted, dirty, and wet fur is a poor insulator.

In 2005, the IUCN Polar Bear Specialist Group (PBSG) classified the polar bear as a vulnerable species. In 2009, they reported that of the 19 subpopulations of polar bears:

• 8 are declining
• 3 are stable
• 1 is increasing
• 7 are without sufficient data
