Straight.com, "Roving the Polar Bear's Exotic Turf—with Care," September 3, 2009. Summer in Churchill has an entirely different look, with wildflowers, berries, and white quartz "boulders" that can suddenly morph into polar bears.

BBC,"Stress Is Shrinking Polar Bears", August 25, 2009. Scientists compared bear skulls from the early 20th Century with those from the latter half of the century. Their study describes changes that could be linked an increase in pollution and the reduction in sea ice. The skulls from the later period were between two and 9% smaller.

Globe and Mail, "Colder Summer Means Healthier Polar Bears," August 18, 2009. A cold summer in many parts of Canada has been a boon for the beleaguered Hudson Bay polar bears. Scientist Andrew Derocher says that the respite is certainly good news for Churchill's bears, although the long-term threat remains.
