Renewable Energy Can Meet Global Demand
An encouraging new report by the International Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) concludes that affordable renewable energy sources could meet 80% of the world's energy needs by 2050, but government support is needed to create policies that support their development.
The transition to renewables, particularly solar power, could keep greenhouse gas concentrations to less than 450 parts per million, averting dangerous and catastropic temperature levels. What's more, the investment would amount to only about 1% of global GDP annually, accodring to Rajendra Pachauri, chairman of the IPCC.
Taking action would help preserve polar bear habitat, ensuring that the bears and the arctic ecosystem remain for future generations.
