PBI Founders Retire
April 8, 2013 (Bozeman, MT) - Polar Bears International (PBI) today announced the retirement of Robert Buchanan as CEO, president, and board member, as well as the retirement of Carolyn Buchanan as secretary and board member. The couple now intends to concentrate their talents and energies on more focused, grassroots initiatives in pursuit of arctic conservation.
According to Robert Buchanan, "The countless hours Carolyn and I have spent developing, organizing, and implementing programs in pursuit of the conservation of the world's polar bears represent the most productive and innovative accomplishments of our lives. Polar Bears International has flourished-becoming a world-class organization of smart and creative people who will continue to expand PBI's influence as one of conservation's leading voices for decades to come."
Dani Reiss, PBI chairman USA, added, "From a small, informal group of polar bear aficionados Robert and Carolyn founded an organization of thousands of members that has become the world's foremost international champion for the welfare and conservation of polar bears and their habitat. Polar bears have become the symbol of the effects of climate change on our planet. Last year, 2012, was the warmest year on record, causing widespread wildfires, drought, and astonishing declines in sea ice worldwide. There is no other conservation issue as important as this.
"We at PBI thank Robert and Carolyn for their devotion and look forward to seeing the results of their new independent efforts as they and PBI's new generation of peerless leaders work to conserve the great white bear and the arctic sea ice it needs to survive."
